Shakedown

Hey all readers and everyone, welcome! Everyone who came from the fan sites, please don't break my nom de plume here. I'm trying to keep it on the down low.

Sorry I disappeared off Applecore after the book tour. It was amazing to meet all of you, and thanks again for all the artwork and the insanely beautiful things you made me. I kind of went a little crazy there from too much traveling and too many cities and people and planes.

This is our new home, what do you think? That's not technically it, since obviously I downloaded that picture. But it's close. I think mine is a couple feet longer and it's also older and kind of less shiny and doesn't have that thing on the roof.

I had to get out of town for a while, even though I just got back from the book tour from hell. Or maybe because!

Camping out on the couch at my mom's house isn't cutting it, that's for sure.

So I bought this trailer and Stu and I are going to travel for a while. My head feels kind of emptied out so I'm thinking this trip will fill it back up again. And I can write the next thing while I'm on the road. Hey, it's a cliche for a reason!

Isn't it huge? Stu's pickup can haul it, though. Plus we can camp out in the pickup bed when it's too beautiful out to stay inside the Airstream, like having a deck. I have a plan for mosquito netting with bungees threaded through the edges so it can hook to the pickup's tiedowns.

We're still cleaning the trailer and fixing it up, or I am, anyway. Stu is working double shifts as long as he can before we leave, trying to save up money, so I'm kind of doing everything, but it's mine mine mine so that's okay.

I have to leave the Bug at my mom's but it's too recognizable from the trilogy anyway. I know none of you would do this (you better not) but plenty of people in my city see my car and think it's pretty funny to throw candy at it, because of that scene in the third book. They did a whole thing on it in the paper here so I'm locally super famous.

What I always wonder is: does everyone just carry candy everywhere they go, or are these people just ridiculously prepared so they're ready and waiting for me AT ALL TIMES? Do you know how scary it is to have those spiral mints come crashing into the windows? It gives me a heart attack every time.

Stop throwing candy at my car!

Especially since my little sister's going to be driving it to school while I'm gone. I should probably warn her about that.

I was all set to get it repainted to fake out the candy throwers which makes me mad because I love that car just the way it is, but maybe it'll blow over by the time I get back. If not I'll have an auction and someone else can enjoy the rain of mints.

There's ten thousand things I have to do before we take off. Put everything into storage at the storage space. Get Shirley to the vet for shots so she doesn't get Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever or anything. Pick out which books I'm taking. That's the hardest part, I do not know why. Pack clothes and dishes and put the rest away. Packing everything up is sad. It reminds me way too much of clearing out my grandma's house after she died. Go around and say goodbye to everyone again even though I just got back.

I think I'll take my bike, though. The Airstream has a bike rack on the front. Stu isn't bringing his but he is bringing that skateboard he painted with skulls and lightning bolts. Whatever floats your boat, Stu.

I hope he doesn't mind I'm not getting the satellite dish on the trailer but the thought of being shut in that small space with him and football makes me want to kill myself. He can always go to a bar to watch the games.

Back at it. More cleaning, bleah. I am in love with this trailer, though. It's like a spaceship, everything built into the walls, everything so clever and perfect, like these little panels that fit over the sink and stove so that you can use them as counters when you're not cooking. How smart is that? And the table sinks down and becomes the base of the bed. Mom is sewing curtains for me (thanks Mom!) and Jackie from the garage is checking all the mechanical things and the propane connections so I don't break down or blow myself up on the first day. Thanks, Jackie! It really is a beautiful piece of engineering. Just a little musty smelling, is all.

Don't worry, I'll still be checking in at the Applecore site and reading everything there. You can't get rid of me that easily! The site moderator is going to start up a tour page so we can meet up when I'm on the road, so watch for that, plus of course I'll be hitting every bookstore I can for signings and all that good stuff. Consider this the extended book tour!

Have extra-strength Comet, will travel.

Wish me luck,

Moxie
